God has given everyone a gift we are to use. When we fail to use the gifts, many people are missing the blessing that God called and equipped us to share. Spiritual disciplines. To remain connected to our power source we need to continually pursue these activities as our daily life routine. It requires an intentional choice. Study Scripture, Serve, Worship, Pray, Share the Gospel. Pray that you and others stand strong and follow God’s plan. Allow God to strengthen you and others. Can you imagine the impact you could have today if you sought God with passion and determination? Don’t let anything pull you away from Christ! August 1 Do believers limit the extent of Jesus’ mission? Sunday school students learn – Recognize Christ’s Mission (Luke 4:16-21) Jesus went to church. Jesus studied God’s word. Jesus felt these things were important, do you? Respond with Acceptance (Luke 4:22-24) Children church learn – Recognize Christ’s Concern (Luke 4:25-27) & React Positively (Luke 4:28-30) August 8th Are you worrying, praying, or praising? Turn your worry over to God in prayer and praise Him. Children church students are learning – Hard to trust – God is trustworthy – Trust God to save us from sin and death. Acts 14, 1 Peter 4:19, John 3:16. Sunday School learn about the Greatest Promise – God’s greatest promise is fulfilled in Jesus Genesis 3:15, Isaiah 9:6-7, Luke 4:16-21 August 15th Why do you compare? There will always be somebody who can do something better than you. There is something God is calling you to do. He gives you the abilities & power to do that really well. So why are you not focusing on that? Children church students learn- Paul and Silas in prison. Acts 1:8; 16:16-34 God wants people to tell others about Him, even when it is difficult. Sunday school students learn- God’s Strength not mine. Exodus 3:11-12; 4:10-17 Someone can always do something better or faster than we can however no one or nothing is greater than my God. We all have limitations but God can use our weakness to accomplish His purpose. If you allow God, He will work through you despite all shortcomings. August 22nd We want to be satisfied right now. We want to feel important. Sometimes seeking this instant gratification causes people to make the wrong commitments. Children church students learn to put God First. Luke 12:13-21; Hebrews 13:5; Psalm 19:14. Value your relationship with Jesus more than anything else. Sunday school students learn – Think commitments through. Proverbs 6:1-5; 22:7: Galatians 6:1-5. Evaluate your commitments. Are you committed to the right things? It is possible to be proud of what you do without comparing yourself to those around you. August 29th Don’t be the one that loses the connection. What is the growth plan? Children church students learn – John 15:1-17 the Lord said he is the vine and we are the branches. Genesis 2:9 trees provide life and knowledge. Jeremiah 17:8 being well rooted allows you to flourish no matter the conditions, Psalm1:3. Sunday school students learn – Make sure you take great care in how you live. Ephesians 5:6-17, What can fool you? What does light produce? What should you make the most of?

What is the significance of Jesus’ use of this Old Testament prophecy to define His mission? Why do you think Jesus chose His hometown as the place to identify Himself as the Messiah? Believers should honor Jesus as the Messiah by recognizing the true nature of His mission. Jesus came to fulfill the word. What personal impact should the mission of Christ have on your life? Respond with Acceptance (Luke 4:22-24) – All spoke well of Him and were amazed. Jesus’ hearers’ initial positive response to Him turned to disrespect and unbelief. No evidence exists Jesus ever performed miracles in Nazareth. Jesus never did miracles on demand. It is hardest to witness to a family member or close friend. Is Jesus accepted in your home? What actions can you take to show that you accept the true nature of Jesus’ mission? Which is easier to help those who are in spiritual or physical need? Recognize Christ’s Concern (Luke 4:25-27) – It had to burden Him when He thought about how people would reject their savior. John 5:39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. 2 Peter 1:21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. Jesus used examples of Old Testament prophets’ ministries to show that God cared about Gentiles too. God called prophets to minister to Gentiles. God’s intent was to make it clear that the gospel is for all people, a truth central to Jesus’ mission. He gave a commandment as well Matthew 28:19-20 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen. What actions can you take on to lay aside your prejudices and, like Jesus, develop unlimited concern for the spiritual needs of others? React Positively (Luke 4:28-30) Why did the people became so enraged at Jesus’ comments? Are we any different? The people were to kill Jesus then but it was not time yet. Jesus showed His power to the angry, violent crowd at Nazareth yet they failed to properly respond. Do you demonstrate your understanding of the nature and extent of Jesus mission through your actions? Understand that Jesus is the prophesied, long-awaited Messiah. Your response to Him is what is important.
